Turning 21

It’s supposed to be fun turning 21🎵
All Too Well (10 Minute Version)

This year has clarified a lot of information, and I am discovering a new version of myself every day. Although I still have my shadows, I have finally come to like and accept the way I am now, reconciling with all my past, and stopping the high-power internal consumption that I was unaware of for several years.

I really like yetone's business card; it's a style I really like, so I made one for myself too :)

I remember the last time I held a birthday party (or was it the last time?), I was still in elementary school in 🇬🇧, and I think I invited a few classmates to dinner. It has been over ten years since then.

Where are they now? What are they doing? The email I left when I left is no longer valid; have they contacted me? I don't know, maybe one day we will meet again, and then we can talk about these topics.

What else happened this year?

  • I got in touch with JavaScript and truly started coding. Although I haven't studied deeply or earned money from it, I still want to say "Thank you, JavaScript." I didn't experience the joy of programming in the terminal at the computer lab, but two years later, I found it in the teaching videos of a foreign teacher. Thank you, Jonas Schmedtmann!

  • Then there’s The Cherno, my C++ mentor. Although I haven't worked on any projects yet, the programming concepts and foundational knowledge he taught me helped me connect the dots in my understanding of computer science, allowing me to have moments of realization like, "Oh, The Cherno mentioned this; so that's what it means" when I encounter many problems later on.

  • During the most stressful exam review period in my second year, I chose to defer two exams to take the time to establish “bjut-swift” (originally called Open-BJUT) and initiated the Beijing University of Technology Course Resource Sharing Plan, which to some extent reduced the ugly phenomenon of buying and selling public exam questions on campus.

  • I met many excellent people through GitHub and Twitter, and I hope to create some meaningful and enjoyable things with them in the future. This was the year I truly started using GitHub, and I gained some insights:

  • Sheep literature is really amazing 😭 I listen to "more than words" at least twice a day
  • This was a year of complete disappointment with the planning of professional courses. After seeing excellent textbooks and learning real knowledge, the content that I previously found tasteless but had to learn became harmful defense. As the saying goes, "Once you've seen the sun," it's hard to go back to the old days.

  • This was a year filled with confidence about my future.

Let's end this year's summary with a quote from Mr. Lu Xun:

May the youth of China break free from the cold air and just move upward.
Do not listen to the words of those who give up on themselves.
Those who can do things should do them, and those who can speak should speak.
If you have a bit of light, give off a bit of heat.
Even like a firefly, you can emit a little light in the darkness.
There is no need to wait for a torch.
